Improvement on Rent Control Info Meeting

The RHA is working to get a critical change to Rent Control on the ballot: vacant units can reset base rent to market rate.  

The amendment, while modest in scope, will have a significant positive impact for both existing tenants and landlords. It removes incentives for landlords to increase rents for existing tenants and allows landlords to reset base rents in vacant units when a tenant has left voluntarily. 

We now must collect signatures to qualify our amendment for the City's ballot this June! We have less than 3 weeks to collect over 2,000 signatures. WE NEED EVERYONE'S HELP or this opportunity will be missed. 

Join us for an informational zoom meeting this Monday, January 30th at 12PM to learn more about the campaign and how you can get involved! 

Two ways to help:

1) If you are a registered voter in Portland, please stop by the RHA's office at 306 Congress Street, Mon - Fri 9:00 - 4:30 to sign the petition.

2) We also NEED volunteers to collect 25 or 50 signatures from Portland residents within your network

We need all RHA members to take action and join this effort. Rent control policies enacted in Portland are often considered in nearby communities, extending the stakes beyond just Portland to all RHA members with properties across southern Maine.
